Title: Black House, Bulgaria

Plovdiv is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe, and when you walk its old town you feel it. The houses lean out over the cobblestones, the ornate white trim patterned on dark facades, the trees pressing in from all sides. I stood below this house and looked up and felt the particular ache of wanting to preserve something beautiful that time is slowly taking. I painted it because I wished I could reside in it. This was the next best thing.
